Karen DeSalvo and Aaron Carroll Join NIHCM Awards Judges Panel

Washington, D.C., December 18, 2019 – Karen DeSalvo, MD, MPH, MSc and Aaron E. Carroll, MD, MS have joined the independent judges panel of NIHCM Foundation's Annual Health Care Research and Journalism Awards.

Established in 1993, the NIHCM Awards recognize the tremendous contributions of researchers and journalists whose work catalyzes positive change in American health care. Winners are selected by independent panels of present and former journalists, researchers and health care experts.

Karen DeSalvo

Dr. Karen DeSalvo is the Chief Health Officer at Google Health, an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Population Health at the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School and Senior Fellow at Bipartisan Policy Center. She previously served as Assistant Secretary for Health (Acting) and National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She is also a Commissioner on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and has been published widely.

Dr. DeSalvo will serve as a judge for NIHCM's Research Award.

Aaron E. Carroll

Dr. Aaron E. Carroll is a Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Research Mentoring at Indiana University School of Medicine and the Vice President for Faculty Development at The Regenstrief Institute. He is a regular contributor to "The Upshot" at The New York Times, blogs on health research and policy at The Incidental Economist and makes videos at Healthcare Triage. He is the author of The Bad Food Bible: How and Why to Eat Sinfully.

Dr. Carroll will serve as a judge for NIHCM's Digital Media Award, which he won in its inaugural year with his team at Healthcare Triage.
