Information We Collect
As stated above, PII generally includes your name, address, and/or email address. However,you largely control the amount and type of information you provide to us when using our website. In general, we do not collect PII about you when you visit our website, unless you choose to provide such information to us. Submitting PII through our website is voluntary. As a visitor to our website, you can browse our website to find out more about us and our programs. You are not required to provide us with any PII as a visitor.
How We Collect Information
We collect PII in various ways. Most common are when an individual:
- Enters an award or grants program;
- Registers for a webinar, conference, or other online or in-person event;
- Subscribes to the NIHCM newsletter or other publication;
- Subscribes to receive updates and other information via email; or
- Contacts us through the website Contact Page
We may also use a technology called web beacons to collect general information about your use of our website and your use of special promotions or newsletters. The information we collect by web beacons allows us to statistically monitor the number of people that open our emails. Our web beacons are not used to track your activity outside of our website.
We automatically receive information from your web browser or mobile device. This information includes the name of the website from which you entered our website, if any, but does not included any PII. This automatic information also includes the IP address of your computer/proxy server that you use to access the internet, your internet website provider name, web browser type, type of mobile device, and computer operating system. We use all of this information to analyze trends among our users to help improve our website.
Our website uses “Google Analytics” to collect information about the use of our site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit our site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to our site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics to improve our site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit our site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information.
You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser.
How Information is Used
We use the PII we collect for several purposes. Among them are as follows:
- Fulfilling Your Requests for Products, Services, and Information.We use PII to effect your registration, subscriptions, and orders.
- Providing and Improving Our Website.We may use the PII you provide to us along with any computer information we receive to provide our website to you as well as to make improvements to it.
- Communicating About Our Website.When we communicate with you about our website, we will use the email address you provided when registering.
- Communicating About Our Offerings. We may send you emails with promotional information about our programs events, products, services, offerings, benefits and opportunities.
- Customizing Content. We may adjust and develop our content and offerings based on orders and expressions of interest from users and visitors.
Sharing Information with Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or otherwise provide your PII to third parties except as permitted by law (below).
Third party disclosures of information permitted by law include but are not limited to: (i) disclosures to affiliates, (ii) disclosures to third-party service providers who provide certain services for our business, such as computer system services, shipping, data management, or promotional services, (iii) disclosures to third parties as necessary to fulfill your requests, and (iv) disclosures to governmental agencies or law enforcement departments or otherwise required to be made under applicable law.
If you attend one of our events, we may occasionally share the RSVP list with an organization partnering with us on the applicable event. If you do not wish your information to be shared in this manner, please contact us.
We may be legally required to disclose your PII, if such disclosure is (a) required by subpoena, law, or other legal process; (b) necessary to assist law enforcement officials or government enforcement agencies; (c) necessary to investigate violations of or otherwise enforce our legal terms; (d) necessary to protect us from legal action or claims from third parties including you and/or other website users; and/or (e) necessary to protect the legal rights, personal/real property, or personal safety of our company, our users, employees, and affiliates.
“Do Not Track” Settings
Our website and services are not intended for children under 13 years of age, and no one under age 13 may provide any personal information to us or through the website or our services NIHCM Foundation does not knowingly collect information online from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, do not use or provide any information on this website or on or through any of its features or provide any information about yourself to us. If we learn we have collected or received personal information from a child under 13, we will delete that information. If you believe we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us using the contact information set forth below.
Our Email Policy
We have security measures in place to protect against the unauthorized access, alteration. loss, or misuse of your PII, though we cannot guarantee against such circumstances. We strongly urge you to protect any password you may have for our website and not share it with anyone.
Retention of Information
We may retain PII for as long as is necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which we obtained the PII and thereafter as is necessary or useful to pursue our legitimate business interests.
Access and Portability
In some jurisdictions, applicable law may entitle you to request certain copies of your PII or information about how we handle your PII, request copies of PII that you have provided to us, and/or request that we transmit this information to another service provider (where technically feasible).
In some jurisdictions, you can request that your personal information be deleted. Please note that if you request deletion of your personal information, or if your account is suspended, terminated, or voluntarily closed, we nevertheless may retain your PII as necessary for our legitimate business interests.
