More for the Money: Insurance Design Strategies That Drive Value

May 27, 2014 | 09:00 AM
10:30 AM ET

Reference pricing, tiered provider networks and narrow networks—three benefit design strategies gaining favor among employers and health plans trying to slow cost growth. While these designs aim to encourage value-informed consumer choices, some perceive them as overly restrictive.

This webinar offered practical insights on how these tools can help make universal access to quality health care an affordable goal.

Speakers covered the following topics:

  • the use of reference pricing to spur cost-conscious purchasing and provider competition
  • research illustrating that copay differences across provider tiers led new patients to choose high performing providers
  • takeaways from implementation of tiered networks in Massachusetts, including provider and consumer reactions
  • the consumer response to smaller, high-value networks, with insights to inform strategy for public exchange offerings
