Uninsured

An essential element of improving the U.S. health care system is reducing the number of uninsured. With a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NIHCM Foundation analyzed health plan initiatives for uninsured people and presented a new framework for understanding the uninsured population. Through a grant from the Commonwealth Fund, the NIHCM Foundation also studied ways to increase health insurance among young adults. An estimated 30% of Americans aged 18 to 30 are uninsured.
