Uninsured

With partial funding from the WellPoint Foundation, NIHCM Foundation has released a new report, Understanding the Uninsured: Tailoring Policy Solutions for Different Subpopulations, that segments the uninsured according to their eligibility, income and whether they are a child, parent or childless adult.  A range of policy options to extend coverage to adults are discussed, as well as options for reaching uninsured young adults and older adults who are not yet eligible for Medicare.

On August 29, 2006, the Census Bureau released it's Current Population Survey (CPS) estimates on the number of uninsured Americans. NIHCM Foundation prepared a Primer on the CPS Estimate in an effort to provide context and perspective.

Under a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, NIHCM Foundation prepared an analysis, The Uninsured: A Study of Health Plan Initiatives and the Lessons Learned. The report presents a new analysis and framework for understanding the uninsured population, and examines in depth 13 private health plan initiatives designed to attract uninsured people. Choose from the list below:

Health Insurance Coverage in the U.S.: The New Census Bureau Numbers for 2000 and The Trend into 2001. A brief analysis of the Census Bureau's assessment of U.S, health insurance coverage in 1999 and 2000.

Young Adults and Health Insurance: An Analysis of Options to Expand Coverage (2001). Through a grant from the Commonwealth Fund, The NIHCM Foundation studied ways to increase health insurance among young adults. An estimated 30% of Americans aged 18 to 30 are uninsured.
