Webinar Archive Available: Retail Stores and the Shift to a Consumer-Centric Health Marketplace

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Washington, DC – June 11, 2012 - The health insurance retail market is expected to triple by 2020, and many see this shift as a key driver of health system innovation, such as the proliferation of retail stores across the country.

To improve understanding of the changing market forces and the way innovative insurers are responding, NIHCM Foundation recently hosted a webinar featuring three industry experts as part of the Transforming the Health Care Landscape series. The event included the following presentations:

  • Howard Lapsley from Oliver Wyman illustrated how success in the retail market requires a more consumer-centric approach--one focused on offering guidance, choice, value and convenience.
  • Tricia Engel from Florida Blue discussed how they're using stores to increase value for consumers by improving transparency, facilitating connections with providers and encouraging healthy choices.
  • Matt Fidler from Highmark Inc. explained how the health plan is focusing on reducing customer hassles and reinforced the idea of brick-and-mortar stores as real-world test labs for refining consumer segment strategies.
The event ended with a question and answer session that included a discussion of how to assess retail store ROI.
