FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Washington, DC – May 24, 2012 - Health insurance exchanges have taken off since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, viewed as user-friendly marketplaces that improve transparency and affordability.
However, approaches to exchange creation are varied, and the uncertain political environment has further clouded the landscape. To shed light on emerging exchange models, NIHCM Foundation hosted a webinar featuring six leading experts on exchanges as part of the Transforming the Health Care Landscape series.
Speakers from Booz & Company discussed the unique advantages of public and private exchanges and explained how both supply and demand side forces are driving consumers to private exchanges. Next, representatives from WellPoint Inc. and Health Care Service Corporation shared information about their private exchange partnership with Bloom Health and showed how defined contribution models are gaining momentum. The final speakers from Leavitt Partners outlined the status of state and federal exchange development and highlighted opportunities for private exchanges and other web-based entities to assist state exchanges.
NIHCM Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group that conducts research on health care issues. The Foundation disseminates research findings and analyses that promote and enhance access to health care and the efficiency and effectiveness of health care services and delivery.
